Hotel Arts Barcelona: Art and Architecture on the Seafront
The Hotel Arts occupies one of the twin towers that defined the Barcelona skyline after the 1992 Olympics. Thirty years on, it remains one of the finest luxury hotels in the city — and the location, directly on the Barceloneta seafront, is unmatched.
Location
The hotel sits at the end of Passeig de Joan de Borbó, literally at the edge of the marina. Turn left from the entrance and you are on the beach within two minutes. Turn right and the Gothic Quarter is twenty minutes on foot. The position is genuinely excellent.
The Room
We were in a Superior Sea View room on the 28th floor, which offered an extraordinary panorama — the Mediterranean stretching south, the port below, the city grid laid out to the west. The room itself follows the Ritz-Carlton house style: restrained luxury, excellent bedding, a bathroom stocked with Bulgari products. Warmer and more residential in feel than many hotels of this scale.
Restaurants
The hotel's principal restaurant, Enoteca Paco Pérez, holds two Michelin stars. It is genuinely exceptional — the tasting menu is a tour through elevated Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine, with a wine list that reflects the serious intent. Book months in advance. For a more casual option, the pool terrace restaurant serves excellent Iberian cured meats, local cheeses, and seafood that profits from proximity to the fish market.
The Pool and Beach Club
The outdoor pool and beach club are the social heart of the hotel in summer. It gets busy — this is not a retreat — but the staff manage it well and the quality of service remains high regardless of how full it is. Loungers on the actual beach can be arranged by the concierge.
Frank's Bar
Thirty-eight floors up, Frank's bar is one of the best places in Barcelona for a sundowner. The views across the city, the port, and out to sea are spectacular at dusk, and the cocktail list is brief but well-considered.
Verdict
Some might find Hotel Arts slightly corporate for their taste — it is, after all, a Ritz-Carlton property in a glass tower. But the location is irreplaceable, the Enoteca is among Barcelona's best tables, and the service is consistently excellent.
