Choosing Your Tour

Santorini catamaran day trips divide into two types: private charters (expensive but worth it for groups of six or more) and group tours (more affordable, usually 8-16 people, often still excellent value). Both depart from the port of Vlychada or Ammoudi Bay beneath Oia.

The Itinerary

Most full-day tours follow a similar route. You sail south past the dramatic caldera cliffs, stopping first at the volcanic hot springs near Nea Kameni — brownish water, strong sulphur smell, oddly enjoyable — then at Red Beach for swimming and snorkelling. Lunch is served on board: usually fresh Greek salad, grilled chicken, tzatziki, and cold Mythos beer. The afternoon run takes you north with the white villages of Fira and Oia overhead, finishing with a sunset that turns the caldera walls amber and pink.

What to Bring

High-SPF sunscreen (the Aegean sun is fierce), a change of clothes, a waterproof bag for your phone, and cash for tips. Most tours include snorkelling equipment, towels and all meals.

Private Charter Considerations

A private catamaran for six costs around €150-200 per person for a full day, allowing custom routing and timing. Worth it if you want silence, better food, and the ability to stay anchored at the hot springs until you're ready to leave.

Book directly with operators at Vlychada port or through your hotel. Avoid third-party booking sites that add significant commission.
