Dubrovnik's Game of Thrones Filming Locations
Dubrovnik served as King's Landing in Game of Thrones, and the production design team chose more carefully than most visitors realise. Here is where the show was filmed and what it looks like today.
The Old City as King's Landing
The majority of King's Landing sequences were filmed on Dubrovnik's city walls, in the Fort Lovrijenac (the Red Keep exterior), on Jesuit Stairs (the famous Walk of Shame), and along Stradun — the main limestone street of the old city. The Dubrovnik Tourist Board produces an official GOT map available from the information office.
Fort Lovrijenac
Fort Lovrijenac, accessible from the old city walls, was used for the Red Keep exterior scenes and the wedding feast in Season 2. The fort operates independently from the city walls — buy a combined ticket. The views back to the Pile Gate and the sea are spectacular regardless of any GOT connection.
The Jesuit Stairs
The baroque staircase leading to the Church of St Ignatius in Gunduliçeva Placa was used for Cersei's Walk of Atonement in Season 5. The stairs are unchanged and always accessible.
Lokrum Island
Lokrum Island (ferry from the old port, 15 minutes, 150 HRK return) was used for Qarth scenes — the gardens and cloisters have a genuine fantasy-landscape quality. The island also has a peacock population and a naturist beach. The GOT prop iron throne replica is displayed in the fort.
Beyond the Show
GOT aside, Dubrovnik's old city is genuinely one of the most beautiful in Europe. Walk the full circuit of the city walls (2km, around 2 hours), swim from the rocks outside the walls, and eat at Nautika or Lady Pi-Pi for the best cooking.
